just tried installing geodas in Wine,and it worked perfectly. installed wine in
Poseidonlinux 3.2, inserted the geodas dvd, clicked on the installer.exe,
right-clicked and chose "open with", selected wine, and followed the installer
prompts. resulting installer works for search,content, reformat
i had discusios wit the developer before he retired. the liux suite is not as
developed as the windows version, that icludes the data tools and the viewer.
the website echos his opinion, strongly urging the use of the windows version.

1. can't find gvsig in the ubuntu archive.
2. Downloading from the gvsi website gets the .bin file, which synaptic package
manager ignores, and will not execute when clicked on.

using FWtools command shell, attempting to convert mif/mid files, point
geometry, WGS84 DD coordinate system to shapefile format.
using this comad string,
ogr2ogr -f "ESRI Shapefile"
mydata.shp mydata.mif
I get this error msg
error 6: data keyword not found in mydata.mif file may be corrupt.
am in a quandry,
have dense/large multibeam files i wish to display i a GIS for various
purposes, essentially XYZ files, in DD WGS84 coordinates, ASCII tab-delimited
or Mapinfo mid-mif formats, up to 10-million points plus in a datset.
