Thank you Darshana for sharing this excellent news of funded training program at http://cept.ac.in/events/geospatial-technology . This will be of wider interest to OSGeo colleagues in India. Congrats to you and CEPT colleagues for making this possible.
I will be in India next week for attending important meetings with my SMARTIES hat [😊] and i will promote Open Principles to all during my India visit. I am happy to see that the Government of India and many state governments in India are taking many proactive steps to expand FOSS because of advantages like increasing interoperability, developing local capacity/ industry, reducing costs, achieving vendor independence, enabling localization, reducing piracy/copyright infringements and increasing growth of knowledge-based society are among the compelling reasons for adopting FOSS. India’s strength in Information Technology can be utilized to develop products using FOSS which will help in bridging the digital divide with significant cost savings and facilitate the creation of a knowledge society. Indian industry/SMEs can benefit from the liberal licensing norms of FOSS which enables software to be freely modified and distributed. I suggest that you reach out and contact FOSS Initiative Cell, Department of Electronics and Information Technology , Government Of India and build synergies for future training programs.
