Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Handbook - Comprehensive Methodologies for
Forest Monitoring and Biomass Estimation (details below) might be of interest.
My thanks to all colleagues who contributed for this and shared it for the
benefit of the wider geo community.

This resource is timely esp. with the forthcoming NASA and Indian Space
Research Organization (ISRO) SAR mission (NISAR) https://nisar.jpl.nasa.gov

Betreff: [WGCapD-Core] Announcing launch of the SAR Handbook

Dear WGCapD colleagues,

On behalf of the SERVIR Science Coordination Office, we are elated to share
with you news about the launch of the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Handbook –
a collaboration between the SERVIR and SilvaCarbon programs, and made possible
through the support of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
The SAR Handbook represents the results of 2+ years of work, including fruitful
collaboration with representatives of the various hubs from across SERVIR’s
global network. We see the SAR Handbook as a practical guide to help introduce
practitioners to the topic of radar remote sensing. We are therefore confident
that this can be a resource to support capacity building across CEOS’ network.

Below, kindly find an email from my colleague and editor Africa Flores (cc’d)
announcing the SAR Handbook’s launch. The full 300+ page SAR Handbook can be
downloaded from:
https://gis1.servirglobal.net/TrainingMaterials/SAR/SARHB_FullRes.pdf.
Additional resources (e.g. individual tutorials, scripts, and chapters) are
available on the SERVIR page at:
https://www.servirglobal.net/Global/Articles/Article/2674/sar-handbook-comprehensive-methodologies-for-forest-monitoring-and-biomass-estimation.
Please feel free to share this announcement with your colleagues, and also
feel free to follow SERVIR on Twitter<https://twitter.com/SERVIRGlobal> and
Facebook<https://www.facebook.com/servirglobal/> for additional updates about
the SAR Handbook. Thank you.

Best regards,

Emil

Subject: The SAR-Handbook

Dear SERVIR-Global Network:

We’re pleased to inform you that the SAR-Handbook: Comprehensive Methodologies
for Forest Monitoring and Biomass Estimation will be released at the 2019
Global Forest Observation Initiative (GFOI) Plenary in Maputo, Mozambique this
week.

Access website hosting SAR-Handbook materials
here<https://www.servirglobal.net/Global/Articles/Article/2674/sar-handbook-comprehensive-methodologies-for-forest-monitoring-and-biomass-estimation>.
  The SAR Handbook is available
here<https://gis1.servirglobal.net/TrainingMaterials/SAR/SARHB_FullRes.pdf>.

Link to news article here<https://bit.ly/2WXMUVV>. Please feel free to share
and disseminate.

This initial release will be as an e-Book, and we plan to have limited printed
copies later in the summer. This will be a “living-document” as we may have
more updates.

We want to sincerely thank the SERVIR-hubs for your enthusiasm, and strong
collaboration to make sure this Handbook covered unique and
as-applied-as-possible content. We hope this content that we co-created will be
ground-breaking and that it will be broadly used by the applied remote sensing
community worldwide. Thank you for your invaluable contributions!

Best regards,

SAR-Handbook Editors
