Hi OSGeo folks, Our homepage is at https://maps4html.org, and while it may need some refreshing, it links to our key resources.
We have been pursuing this dream for a while now, and I just wanted to make sure you folks are aware of the project, and to invite you to participate if you would like to. Naturally, contributions are welcome, but I understand if folks are not in a position to do that "in their spare time". There is a contributions agreement provided by the W3C, which I suppose is a slight barrier to joining, but not too high on an individual level. https://www.w3.org/community/maps4html/ I would be happy to chat about it here or on matrix (where I just connected). What it comes down to is this: the Web, represented by browsers and search engines, is effectively public infrastructure. Browsers are open source projects. HTML , CSS etc. are open standards. We believe that maps and location are important to society (I won't go further at this time :-P). So, can we put the standards and open source tools of the GeoWeb into the actual standards and tools of the Web in a way that benefits everyone, and if so, how? You may or may not align with that philosophically, or technically, and reasonable people can differ. Anyway, I'll stop here. Our current speculative polyfill uses Leaflet internally, but its API is quite different, and documented here <https://maps4html.org/web-map-doc/>. Cheers, Peter Rushforth
