How do I load the zip version instead of the exe server version? The
server version of 6.0.2 or 6.1b doesn't work correctly with special
characters, but the zip version does. The exe version of 6.1b2 has the
same problem.

I get that message when I am playing a playlist with an out of date path

the file you are trying to play, maybe special characters, accents etc.

Also, take a look at bug 1508
(http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1508). It relates to a
problem that sounds similar to the one initially described in this
thread ("constant pops and static over the top of the music"), but isn't
specific to 24-bit 48KHz files. If the symptoms are ind

This was the conclusion I eventually came to but hadn't updated this
post - it seems the most one can do by modifying the SlimServer code is
adjust the frequency bias.

After taking a quick peek at the code, though, I'm guessing that the
FFT for the spectrum analyzer is computed within the Squeezebox 2
itself, so this particular change would have to be implemented in
firmware (and maybe not even then, if the FFT is done in hardware).

I just transferred some of my old vinyl favorites into .wav format using
Nero Wave Editor. When I play the songs back thru iTunes everything is
perfect - equalized volume with all the other existing files and pretty
good quality too. Problem is when I playback thru my Squeezebox - the

One other problem to check is if the ones that don't play have any
"accented" characters (for example á, é or ä) anywhere in the path or
filename. If this is the case, it is an identified bug that hasn't
been patched yet relating to the handling of unicode.

I'm not seeing any problems with the 24-bit 48KHz FLAC samples that I
have. If you do file a bug, please attach (or provide a link to) a
sample file.

Uncheck all the AAC files in iTunes and set the "ignore unchecked songs
in iTunes" in the server settings. This should do it. I did have some
problems running 6.0.2, but with 6.1 it worked perfectly

It could theoretically be done, but getting interframe drag and drop

Does the scheduled re-scan wipe the database and scan, or just scan?

Apple are aiming iTunes at the crowd who think 64kbps AAC on their iPod
mini is great sound quality. You can see why they don't consider the
ripping engine a very high priority.

I asked them to.. Maybe just a matter of time.
I will move into the new house at the end of this month. I will post
pics of how the final product will look in the wall soon after.
Keep the ideas going!

On my Win/XP system (beta 1 server) I had what sounds like a similar

"Renaming" the files to a filetype of "mp3" bypassed the problem and

A tool like Adobe Audition could do that (there are probably others as
