Check you have audio outputs always ON in players settings. It could be
that the AEs don't like the audio input disappearing when the SB is
switched OFF.

I have Audioengines connected to an SB2.
I get a rather loud plop sound from the Audioengines about ten minutes
after switching off the SB2. The sound is only short (1s) but it makes
you jump out of your chair! I got used to turning the AEs off
immediately after using the SB.

Not unusual. Hard drives are the sort of devices that have an infant
mortality trait. If they don't fail within the first 6 months,
they'll soldier on for 5 years+.

I'm so happy with my first SqueezeBox that I'm thinking about buying a
second one.
I have one problem. I don't have a Wireless ethernet modem.
In the room I want to place the second squeezebox has only one ethernet
port available and that one is in use by the PC.

What about using a small, cheap ethernet switch and couple of wired
ethernet over power connector? Probably be cheaper than a decent
wireless modem.

How about foobar? foobar will report stream errors if it finds them.
You may want to check the flacs for errors, try flac -t after encode or
flac -V during encode.

flac DLL or command-line like any other program after ripping to WAV.
It's too late now, but it'd be interesting to see if the same errors
were present in the WAV, which would conclusively prove that it's a
ripping issue.

I ripped a CD with winamp to flac, and when I tried to play the files on
my Squeezebox, there were awful audio problems (somewhat like dropouts,
but not quite). I later tried ripping the same CD with EAC, and it
plays fine. I will use EAC from now on, but I am wondering if anyone

I have my TP hooked up to an Arcam Solo, which has an RS232 input to
take commands using its own protocol.
So, could I use the RS232 on the TP as an output to send commands to
the amp? I have in mind commanding the Solo to switch to the AV input
when the TP starts-up and pass through volume

Tried changing the 'Turn Audio Off', no luck, also made sure did a full
reset before testing. Noise comes about 10-14 minutes into being
switched off. Thought it could be something to do with spinning drives
down on Mini ITX so changed those settings but still no luck.

you mean as discribed in the wiki I mentioned earlier? :-) I'm doing this so
often, the needed ports are forwarded by default when connecting home.

forwarded ports 9000 and 3483 (client to server ssh forwarding) and
pointed softsqueeze to localhost. That's actually the first thing I
tried. I dont have any problems doing port forwarding for other apps.

That is all it takes.
Only two surprises for me:
1) Do not turn on SSH tunnelling on the SSH tab. That will make
Softsqueeze try to tunnel itself. For whatever reason, you don't want
to use it, so don't turn that on.
2) Perhaps it is just a long day, but I had to use the name
'localhost' not

I created tunnels on port 9000 and 3483 and was able to connect with
Softsqueeze using either localhost or 127.0.0.1 for a server.
To the OP, make sure in the prefs for Softsqueeze you have the
Slimserver hostname in the Basic tab set to 127.0.0.1 or localhost and
ssh is disabled in the SSH tab.
Is there a way to completely reset the SB3 unit and get everything back
to the factory defaults ?

Thanks for all the help. Yeah, thats exactly what I tried. However,
when I started softsqueeze up, it would not show anything in the GUI
LCD. When I checked the log for my SSH client, it showed that
softsqueeze was trying to connect via 3483 to it and it would get stuck
at that point. I think

My most humble apologies for the slow reply. I tried for 3 days to
duplicate the problem I can unsuccessfully, then on the fourth day it
happened. SoI need to take careful notice of what occurred before
and the way I entered Internet Radio from the Skin to find out how to
duplicate it.
Need to reset the time on the squeezebox. I guess it thru the time zone
but seem to have set it incorrectly.

Transporter - BK Reference 200.2 - Vandersteen 3A Signature.
I've restarted my ppc mac mini (updated to os 10.4.10) after several
months, and updated SS to 6.5.4 (from 6.5.0 I think). Now SS won't

The time displayed is the time set on the server computer. You need to
fix the time setting on the server and the SB will display the correct
time.
