I am currently writing a quick and dirty (esp dirty) notification tray

It can do the following things:

OK I've got some (hypothetical) plugin ideas:
- hum the song you want to hear... thinking of that iphone app
- background music that adjusts to the ambient noise in the room
- music ip like playlists based on ambient noise and number of people
- an alarm that checks if you are actually moving
I don't know what the style is in the UK, but if you wrote such a letter
to a US paper, likely all the technical stuff would be edited out or
translated into simple language. But who knows, maybe you'll get some

Sell them. Streamed media and the Internet make them entirely
redundant.
As most others have realised this you'll not get much money for them,
but you may be able to recoup some of your losses by renting out the
saved space.

That's a pretty blatant copyright infringement - may as well just
download the tracks illegally if you're going to do that.

Stealing is stealing. You can rationalize it all you want, but in the
end it is still stealing.
I have no sympathy for the music companies or the the RIAA, but they
have legal rights. Besides the artists lose out as well.

I enjoyed listening to D-dur in FLAC quality while I could get it, but I

There is an issue of cost and scarcity of bandwidth. But more
fundamentally, broadcasters (especially those in the West?) may feel

I bet almost everyone would not be able to ABX a 224k Vorbis stream

they are experimenting with FLAC, but as the previous poster said, I
wonder how much that's costing them.
