Not 'out of the box' so to speak.
Sonos relies on UPnP broadcasts to locate devices on the network and as
UPnP broadcasts only work on a single subnet you wouldn't be able to
connect to another Sonos device in a remote locati

consider something like ethernet over powerline adapters. They often
work very well for bringing ethernet to a player.
I might be able to get it running with Ethernet, but due to location
issues, it wouldn't work as a solution.

Was wondering if it's just the server that ignores upgrades or does this
also affect the receiver and controller. ie; receiver and controller
might decide they need FW
It's (supposedly) 100k hours for the SB3 VFD's.

This is a bummer - I wonder if there is a way to plug it into the
network via ethernet

The only 'gotchas' I can think of which would prevent me personally from
switching are ...
1. No multi tagging support (as mentioned by Mnyb in post #6).
If you use multitagged artists, albumartists or genres, they won't work
as you hope with Sonos
2. No support for the YEAR tag.
Sonos does not

I wasn't aware of that. Can you point me in the direction of the T&C's
concerning the firmware?

IIRC Logitech used to not allow this as it breaks the T&Cs (no
redistribution of Logitech binaries) of a player.

I have an iMac currently running 10.7.5 Lion but want to upgrade to
Mountain Lion, will this not be compatible with my Squeezebox? I want to

You must dowload the controller firmware and install from a SDCARD, that
can be inserted in the controller:
You could try blocking mySqueezebox.com on your router or in the hosts
file on your server to test which favourites work. Or alternatively just
wait til the next outage that lasts a couple of days (which seems to me
is probably inevitable)

Is there definitely different firmware for 7.7 and 7.8? I also believe
you can cancel the firmware. Another factor after reading the op is that
the mac running 7.8 is to be used for streaming to an iPhone so the
firmware thing is not relevant for that at least, do you also want to
