Process of elimination indeed worked against the laws of probability in
this case. I actually did have two sb power supplies go at the same
time.

We have three squeezeboxes. Two power supplies appear now to have died
(coincidence?!) , except that the speakers pulse when then are plugged
in. All three squeezeboxes actually work fine with the third power
supply.

My Squeezebox 3 has just died. I was listening to the News Quiz on the
iPlayer plugin, and pressed the pause button for a couple of hours. I
came back to it and hit pause again. The unit sprang into life, then,
without warning went blank. The left channel now emits a quiet pulse of
low
due to their
size. Thinking about it, YouTube vids used to hang in the same room on
my old laptop as well. Could be related.
Still, the WiFi tool was interesting and my router runs Tomato, so I
was able to boost the power (but not too much), which I believe has
helped.
