MS bought this company too www.nirvis.com
The SLink part of the interface is obsolete, but there is no better
product on the market for IR/PC integration.

to work for the broken unit is to disable the
flac-flac file type in the server settings.
This does not work because it disables flac streaming for the good
units.
Thoughts?

So back to the original statement - XP is not broken, so why try and
fix it with Vista? Where are the gains?
I would expect neither Ghost, PowerDesk6 nor Partition Magic to work
with Vista unless they have been upgraded to be compatible with Vista.

Vista / XP / etc... is not server architecture, it is desktop /
workstation architecture.
Run server software on a server OS.
Slimserver is not CPU bound**, it is I/O bound, meaning gets lots of
memory and fast disk.
** Unless you are trancoding during playback.

Most important bugs (I don't care about any Vista/Windows issues) are
fixed in the firmware.
You can install the new firmware without using 6.5.2, I've been running
this way for weeks.

Generally I agree, but a fast disc? A WAV stream is only 1411 kbps.
Heck, even a 24/96 WAV is 4608 kbps. Even a very slow disc will be
orders of magnitude faster than that.
Perhaps for rescanning, yes.
Yeah, fast disk and memory for the DB.

I use the MySQL that installs with Fedora.
You have to create the DB yourself, but then you just put the url,
userid and password in the /etc/slimserver.conf. When you start
slimserver it will build the tables on the fly.

I have not had a reboot since firmware v81, but then I have not really
stressed it too much.
I also use strictly flac files. I also use the analog outs.
I also recompress flacs on the fly to zero compression, due to 24bit
96khz files in my library.

Should the SB3 be able to play these flac files correctly?
NB these files play fine on my transporter, as expected.

Yep, I tried the convert.conf thing and the SB3 plays appropriately.
There *is* an audible hiss in the material, however during quiet
passages, I am not sure if this is in the source or not.
I would have to compare it with my transporter.

How much heat should an off transporter give off?
My H20 directv box sits on the TP, the H20 is a small fusion plant and
I think the TP's aluminum frame is acting as a heat sink for the H20.

I have this problem too, only on my SB3 though. It happens on the
digital connection; I have it connected to a Marantz receiver. I am
going to change over to the analog outs and see if I get the same
problem.
It definitely sounds like a sync issue on the S/PDIF link.

I pulled out the big guns first, only later realizing that I should have
tried one thing at a time. If it happens again, I will just cycle the
main power.
This is the first I have heard about de-magnetizing the knob mechanism.
What would cause a magnetic build-up on/around it?

Same problem here, except the wheel no longer works at all. Neither
does the remote sensor. The unit works from slimserver fine (I
believe).
The unit is 5 months old.

The transporter works by going through slimserver (6.5.1), but the

Has anyone seen these issues before?
I am also waiting on a support response.

I unplugged the transporter from the main and when I plugged it back in
I did a factory reset. It seems to have cleared up all the issues
accept the flywheel stiffness.
I wonder what caused the electronics to go a little squirrelly.
