Philippe,
I won't surprise you to find out that your tip works. Thanks.
Is there any chance you could surface that option in a the GUI in a
future version. Plus the ability to specifically select an item from
ones favorites as the default "play" stream - in case the kids have been
playing

Thanks. I'll try it in the morning.

That didn't work. I suppose with the SB Classic etc when you "Power Off"
with a remote they don't really go off in thae same way as cutting the
power on the ChromeCast Audio.
Time to try the CLI stuff, never looked at that

Hello,
I've made myself a portable SB my combining a Chromecast Audio which I
power with one of those high capacity phone charger batteries and a
battery powered speaker. As the CC does consume power even when not
being used it drains the battery over time so I plug it in as I need it.
The
Foobar2000 does the job well.
Load the files up and right clicking gives you a context menu, one item
is convert.
You may have to look for the APE/Monkeys Audio Plugin though.

For stream.mp3 to work you will need lame.exe in C:\Program Files
(x86)\Squeezebox\server\Bin.
Also I believe you can get at your music on an iPhone by installing
subsonic on your server and an app from the app store on your phone.
Can't remember what the app is though.

I was going to suggest that you may have tried to reuse the power
supply.
I've almost jumped on an apparently dead WRT54G only to eventually
realise ( more than once ), that the culprit is a dead power supply.
If you have the option just double check that on your dead router!

Looking at the info on the link there is no sound output yet with

Have you found a solution to this?

I do have a programming background but Pearl looks pretty much write
only to me at present.
I would expect that a variant of the Flac2Mp3 pearl script with all the
correct wrappings would do it. Beyond me at present.

Can your router do a static DHCP reservation or whatever it's called.
Your phone will always get the same IP address then.

Just a question - why do we have to tell your proggy where to start
lookin? Can it not just get the info from SC settings?
Thanks

Thant was pretty easy. The kids think that's great - yet another use for
the increasingly versatile PSP.
I had to put the client IP address in the HTML too - any chance of a
bit of java script that picks up the client IP for you?

I just called Ripcaster to get myself a remote and they don't have any
backlit ones left.
I still don't understand why we have to pay £25 for a remote when they
are $20 direct ( but they won't ship to UK any more)

My wife dropped the remote (twice) and the shell is broken. I can't
expect that to be replaced under warrenty. Thanks for the advice
anyway.

Does that mean I have to go back to the mother-in-law for another?
My wife is suggesting that the remotes should have been drop tested
and be made to survive successive five foot drops onto a wooden floor.

You could always dual boot, but even more room for fiddling would be to
use VMWare and run windows and office in that for your occasional
need.

One way to do this would be to use VMWare ( Player or Server, both free)
and use the SlimCD inside.

bpa,
Yes I use Alien BBC all the time and it's great but when I'm on holiday
or whatever I can get someone else to grab the stream for me before the
week is up.
I would then like to be able to play the .ra file back directly on my
SB without converting it to another format.

I have the same problem on two different XP installations. Very
frustrating as I'm missing Just A Minute.
Is it the same / related to what could be an mplayer issue reported in
