As I posted in the "Beginner" forum, I think the SlimServer/ReadyNAS bundle may open up more beginner useability issues than it may hope to solve as a "bundled" solution. Sure, I think it's a great idea to "eliminate the computer" by running SlimServer embedded on the ReadyNAS. Unfortuantely, I think doing so is even more complicated then just installing SlimServer on a handy "spare" system. For one thing, you can't go "under the hood" of the ReadyNAS SlimServer...your only choices are to turn it on or turn it off. The only plug-ins that are avaialble are the ones that Infrant make available. Similarily, I think performance issues with the NAS-based server will be harder to troubleshoot and solve than on an "open" stand-alone server implementation.
Don't get me wrong, as has been well pointed out elsewhere, support on this forum for SlimServer, as well as on the Infrant forums for both the ReadyNAS in general as well as the embedded streaming services is timely, friendly and effective. I'm just not sure that someone looking to by a "bundled" solution will be willing to bear with the learning curve requried to start enjoying the system. I agree that a better wiki and/or including a guide titled something like "You're Just n Minutes Away From Listening To Your First Track With SlimServer" (where product marketing could choose the value of "n") in the box would be most helpful. -- atebit ------------------------------------------------------------------------ atebit's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6232 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25168 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
