that there might be a way to do this by sending a UDP packet - but that page refers to a SLIMP3. Does that protocol still apply to newer squeezebox 2/3 devices? (I have access to a PC on the same subnet as the squeezebox, from which i could send such a packet.) any tips much apprd... thanks ben -- bglad

Dell 400MHz PII, 384 MB ram, fedora core 4, slim 6.2 16000 songs and 3 squeezeboxes - rescanning takes half a day and web pages are slow but usable, otherwise works fine and handles aac conversions and alienbbc happily -- bglad

the bbc are offering at least one live radio feed in WMA format - Windows Media Audio 9 32 kbps, 44 kHz, mono 1-pass CBR http://www.bbc.co.uk/fivelive/live/live_sportsextra_int.asx is this a good substitute for an mp3 stream? should the beeb be encouraged in this direction? -- bglad

fits one thing concerns me whatever the architecture - rescanning for new music flogs the server... they'll want a 24/7 music service and to frequently add the latest cds - is there any way to lessen the load of rescans? thanks again ben -- bglad
