If both outputs are live doesn't it effectively half the standard 100mV
line out to 50mV each?

...,that means that's the level,is roughly the the same with modern
sources with very low output impedance and typical preamps, etc with high
input impedance .
You can probaly split to >10 inputs , but potential, problem is cable
capacitance due the accumulated cable length and noise pickup

No ... The outputs should have relatively low impedance, and the inputs
relatively high, so both inputs should see close to th full output.

Why not?
Splitting an output signal with a Y cable is fine. (Don't use a Y cable
to combine two outputs into one input, though.)

I wouldn't split the RCA although it will work. Can't you use the RCA
and one of the digital outs? Or perhaps better send the RCA to one amp
and then use the tape out to connect to the second amp.

Thanks. I'll give it a go when the time comes. Wasn't sure if it would
kill my squeezebox at all.

Just a quick question, could I connect up a single player (most likely a
Touch) to 2 different amps?
I'm thinking of splitting the RCAs to 1 set of powered ceiling speakers
and 1 amp (micro system etc)
I know I could switch the output but would want to use them both at the
same time.
Cheers
