Well gentlemen, guess what, No more "Screech" !
I'm not much of a computer geek at all obviously, so I don't know why
this was the fix , but I'm glad to report that the problem is now
solved!
Add this one to the knowledge base!
Thanks for all the kind advice here!

I have now been able to eliminate this 'screech" event from happening by
closing the slimserver PC browser interface page, I'm using Opera 9.20
... I was also getting into the bad habit of leaving to many tabs open
unnecessarily, so I've cut back on this also
I wonder if this makes any sense

Well... I just caused mine to SCREECH!! I was adding a new set of music
thru iTunes interface and also playing the same tunes thru SS/SB3. Went
to update the album art and... when iTunes added to the file that was
currently playing - SCREECH of about 5~7secs with an alac.exe error pop
up window. O

This may not be so helpful. But is it possible that your PC has a modem
which some one has plugged in recently and is now trying to dial out.

I have the same problem.
My setup: Apple Ibook (OS X 10.3.9 - Slimserver 6.5.1 using iTuness
library and playlists) with external Firewire disk -> Linksys
Wireless-G Broadband Router -> SB3 -> Beresford TC-7510 MkIII DAC ->
Linn pream+amp -> loudspeakers.
I dont know if its possible, but I su
I am not certain but I think WMA lossless format needs to be transcoded
by the server. If so there is an issues with Windows where transcoded
files data can get truncated.
You could run a debug log with d_source and d_directstream to see what
is happening.
As I said it is unlikely to be the caus

If the source of audio is being transcoded, then if somehow text or
(e.g. an error message) or other non audio data (e.g. disk read error
resulting in junk data) was sent alongside or instead of the audio
data, it would be encoded into a valid audio stream and result in
incoherent noise.

Very unlikely. The music files are broken up into TCP/IP packets, then
sent over the wire, then reconstructed at the end. The screech would
have to be specifically encoded i
Thanks for the reply,
I did use the search function and as you say, nothing seems to have
been written on the symptom. Yes, this also happens without the MHDT
DAC inline and with analogue outs. Good point on checking the I/Cs ,
however they are quite new BJC LC-1s and I'm sure they are well
seated

I've never heard a screech, or read about it on the forum for
Perhaps 2 hours between events on average, both less or more, in terms
of time between experiencing these sonic events, sometimes days
between. With music playing a 1.5 second burst of that sound a FAX
makes over a telephone when dialed & blasts loudly, then the music
continues. By replaying the t
