Have a look towards the bottom RHS of this page: http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/349/4876 It's fairly common for the IR emitter in the remote to suffer from a bad contact. You can test this by looking at it through a digital camera. The emitter will glow when operated & viewed through the camera.

Not sure if you have access to an itouch, ipad, or iphone but if you do for less than 10 bucks you can get an app, ipeng or squeezepad (ipad only), which work extremely well. Logitech even has a free app which is very basic but gets the job done better than the old remote that comes with the clas
