Lossless files take up a lot of space. Hard drives are cheap though, so I've just bought myself a 400GB drive. This will be more than enough to hold all my music as FLAC and transcoded MP3 versions (car player & iPod) for the next few years. Something else to consider though is backups. Up until now I've used a network attached 80GB hard drive to do automatic backups of my MP3s to. This won't be large enough to backup my FLACs to, so I'm wondering if I should shell out on another big drive. Pretty much all my music is ripped from my own CDs, so I realise that I could recover from a drive failure by re-ripping. I guess it is just a case of weighing up the likelihood of a drive failure, the cost of another drive, and the time & hassle of ripping everything again.
