for my IR Emitter and it works like a breeze. It seems, I just got a
faulty part.

I don't know that it does anything without it. It might, I have some
vague recollection it just echoes any IR commands it doesn't process
(i.e. any commands destined for other devices) to the IR

I just received my SB3 with an IR emitter yesterday - so you can
definitely call me a newbie.
I have an issue with the IR emitter and I am curious to hear some
comments from you, since after some playing around, I believe, that the
IR emitter simply does not work.

If you have a digital camera or any camcorder, hook up the emitter and
watch it thru the camera (pointing a tv remote at the camera is a good
way to test). That will let you actually see if the emitter is
working.
