I retired the SB3 to the bedroom as others just couldn't work it with
these silly pauses.
It's wired there but still the same stalling behaviour. No torrents or
P2P on my network.

lyteroptes - I'm also on the same setup, and get the same issue - in my
case it's related to running any form of Torrent software. I suspect my
crappy BT Home Hub either can't cope with the number of open connections
or limits these to keep VoIP available.
No torrents, no problems, for me, anyway
lyteroptes, I get the same thing: No punctuation; just the occasional
full stop.

Ah well, I am on wireles (the server is wired to the switch) but once
it's streaming (flac) it's generally perfect - never any stutters just
the occasional full stop.

What you're describing smacks of network issues. Check the quality of
your network connectivity using the Network Test plugin. Are you on
wireless?

I'm not actually using it interactively...and I'm not when I'm using
the SB. The server has been rebooted a few times in the past week but
I haven't noticed any correlation in performance.

In my experience, a lack of response usually means the server is busy.
If this continues, it means the server has its memory bogged down and
needs a reboot to restore a good response.
