You could only have balance in "transcoding" mode so I've disabled it
for simplification

Yes, quite stable.
I've installed the latest development versions for as far back as I can
remenber, if there's a problem, it usually gets fixed within 24 hours.
If it bothers you, just install 8.2 and turn off auto
