A lot of the performance problems would go away if there was a
separate process which did nothing but deliver music to the slimp3/sb
(and handle display features, etc). I think this should be broken out
from the main server.
We all know this. Just do it.

Free Lunch,
Regarding measuring performance of 6.2. The 6.2 server includes a
plugin which collects statics on server performance - including the
response time of the server to requests from players.
If you want to post details of the measurements here [or on another
thread] I would be happy
Dean, does the installer include this warning? Noone reads release
notes, after all!

Yes, absolutely. When you install 6.2, SlimServer will do a full

As others have stated this is not the case for every SLIMP3 (original) user. I've been running 6.2 since it was released and 6.2b2 prior to that. I have experimented with the 6.x nightly releases as they were being developed and some of the 6.x releases. I usually went back to 5.4.1 for

Does Apple tell me I need to invest some of my time to make a full

Does Slim Devices sell you the entire system in a pre-built,

Does Microsoft tell me that I'll need to spend some time before I'll be
able to use Excel?
I think what's needed here is a bit more management of expectations,
that's all. SLiMP3 support in 6.2 works for most people. It doesn't
seem to work for this one person. The disappointment comes in the fact
that 5.4 was fine for his needs, BUT IT OFFERED HIM AN UPGRADE that

As my slimp3 is also working very well, I assume that your problems with
6.2 might be more general and not slimp3 specific.
I remember that the previous 6.x version does come along with an
updated firmware for the slimp3. May be you missed that update? I
couldn't find firmware updates for the

Is 6.2 supposed to support the SLIMP3 player?
Yes, I'm using 6.2 with 2 original SLIMP3s and it works fine. It sounds
like you may be having some other problem with your setup.

@malsbury: just did a diff on an old 5.x slimp3 firmware an the one that
came along with 6.1.1. You are right, they didn't changed any single
byte. This means that I upgraged to an identical version, but at least
it doesn't blow the device ;-)
So it remains unclear to me why slimp3 does make
Maybe this is just a WAG...
But doesn't the Slimp3 have a virtually-non-existent buffer?
And doesn't 6.2 require a full database rebuild when it is first
installed?
And doesn't that tend to drag down the machine that the server runs
on...

Given the size of Slim Devices as a company, I feel like they do an
adequate level of testing prior to release. Do you really think
many other companies would even bother to support a product as old as
the slimp3?
SlimServer is supported for a wide variety of platforms. It is
impossible for them
