If I don't care about settings, is there any way to get slimserver to
offer a default playlist regardless of IP? I sometimes connect to
slimserver from my cellphone with a dynamic IP, and I get nothing
streamed until I log into the web UI and create a playlist for the new
IP.

especially in the UI/usability area. It is getting better, albeit
slowly. I guess we all have to make our own tradeoffs in terms of

Well, copying and pasting blocks of the slimserver.pref file is pretty
easy. Just be sure to (a) stop slimserver before editing the file, and
(b) make a backup of the pref file before editing
