No, not unless the user expects to use it as an alarm 24/7. The Touch

Alarm functionmakes sense in BOOM and Radio .
However I have had all house alarm when going to bed with the stereo

I use the alarm on my classic with IR-blaster that powers on the amp.
What my IR codes do not do is prime the amp volume to a suitable level.
So it works well, but still lacks a bit of control.
I agree the Boom is more suited to the task.

I have the squeezebox touch connected to a Denon 591 receiver through
digital cable (toslink). When the alarm is on, the receiver will be
turned off so no sound will be played.
Can the squeezebox play the alarm without the receiver and the
receiver's speakers being on?

I just tried it with the receiver off, the alarm went off but no sound
was being played because the receiver is off.

It would help to know what type of Squeezebox you're talking about. For
the SB Radio or Boom you need to turn the device on to set the alarm,
and in that sense the built-in speakers will be powered on. Even so,
they won't necessarily make any sound. If you disable the Radio's beeps
and blurps
Can I set the alarm without the speakers being powered on? Also, I
turned off the sound effects volume.
