[slim] Syncing Touch with Receiver means no 24-96 playing?

2010-08-12 Thread united59
Hi, I'm wondering if any of you experts here can give me an answer on the following matter: Today I have two Receivers and one Boom, as a standard they are all fully syncronized. Now I'm buying a SB Touch as a addition, one of the reasons for this is that I want to play hirez-files. But will

That's a good question and I'd like to know for when I buy a touch to compliment my Classic and Boom. I'm hoping the touch will be handed the original 96/24 whilst sox converts to 48/24 for the other SBs and they all stay in sync. -- Mick Seymour

This will work only if you run an external SBS that has the horsepower to downsample. -- andyg andyg's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3292 View this thread:

Cool. My linux server should handle it very well then. It already downconverts 96/24 to the other SBs without a hitch. -- Mick Seymour Mick Seymour's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21137 View

Thanks for the reply, Andy. With a mediumfast (2,+GHZ), double-core desktop server, 4 gig RAM, Raid0-setup, I should be okay? Is there any specific settings I have to apply? My Touch will be delivered tonight, and I'm pretty excited about this. -- united59

Maybe I am reading this wrong or reading into it. IIRC when players are sync'd there is only one stream. Example, if three Touch units are sync'd with a 24/96 then they all get 24/96. But if I have a Transporter or Touch, a Boom, and an SB3 all sync'd and my SBS server is powerful enough to do

OK, iPhone Mnyb, your replies was what I somewhat feared. But good to know. AndyG must have misunderstood my writing (don't blame him, English language is not my strongest act). My new Touch has just arrived, time to unwrap it. And play some files unsynced. -- united59

Thanks, everyone for the clarification. Anyway, my brand new Touch sounds beautifully, just now playing some Patricia Barber MFSL 24-96 (unsync'd, hehe). Yeah, I know I would struggle hard to hear the difference with the downsampled 24-48s, but still there is this feelgood factor (or placebo).
