Here's the good news: WiMP handled quickly and now allows us to stream
MP3/256kbps to _all_ players.
If you're running your own SBS you'll have to update to the latest 7.5.2 or 7.6
nightly, or install the updated WiMP plugin f

This is in WiMP's hands - or their lawyers'... They announced more countries
for Q4 2010. Don't know more than that.

WiMP isn't available for SB in Denmark yet.

Yes, it's NO only for now.

Hi Claus,
I have a Squeezebox Duet, and I did the following to make it work:
1. Logged on to http://mysqueezebox.com/appgallery/WiMP, and installed
the plugin hitting the Install-button. I then hit Configure and entered
my phone number and password for my WiMP account.
2. Logged on to my Squeezeb

I live in Denmark and have am active WIMP subscription through Telenor
Denmark.
Unfortunately I cannot get it to work.

This patch seems to be related to the problem:

Any chance of a quick solution?

Then everybody will have the opportunity to pay for 96 kbps streaming
on their Transporters.

According to the article linked to in the beginning of the thread the
plan is to release the Wimp support for Squeezebox users outside of
Norway in Q4 2010.

Quite a mess to support a service available only in Norway and Denmark.
Sounds like another marketing department idea. Is Aspiro actually going
to develop a feed in another format for Squeezebox devices, or is this
one of those "the ball is their court" things that aren't likely to
ever happen?

Right, it's another decoder.

My understanding is:
1. Linux based players (Radio and Touch) do native decoding of the
256kbit/s stream.
2a. Older ip3k based players don't do native decoding of any AAC format
at any bitrate.
2b. Transcoding for ip3k players is done by the local server using
faad.
2c. faad is not capable of tran
It is, but that's the only format they provide. It's better than only
supporting Radio and Touch right?

How many other streaming music services need to be transcoded by the
server? Isn't that a bit unusual?

The problem is rather technical, but basically the 256k format is not a
streaming format (MPEG-4 AAC), while the 96k one is (ADTS AAC). faad
cannot transcode a streaming MP4 because it needs access to the entire
file.

If you connect Touch's digital out to Transporter's digital in, you should be
fine.

I don't remember the details of the file formats, but the higher quality stream
can't be transcoded. One is m4a, while the other is aac.

No more than for Classic/Transporter etc. WiMP is aware of the issue and are
testing alternative streaming methods. And dealing with the labels...
