I've just sold on my Archos 101 as it was a bit too unwieldy, especially
in the 16:9 format. Not sure waht to do for a replacement. This looks
like it may be interesting idea for an Android remote for those that
have no other use for a tablet:

I bought a smartq v5 a couple of years ago - runs a linux and Android.
I was really impressed - especially with Radiotime (aka Tunein).
Then, I foolishly and unwaringly left it plugged in on the mains (to
save battery use) ... and after 2 days the battery slowly exploded. A

I bought a cheap (£70 ~$110) 7" Android 2.2 tablet from Amazon in the
UK.
It runs SqueezeCommander perfectly well and I'm very happy with the
whole set up for very little outlay.

That's correct, but I wouldn't count on a Windows tablet ha

Someone will probably contradict me in a minute, but I
Just saw a Nook Color being sold on the local Craigslist for $120. Tough
to beat that.

I went with a refurbished Galaxy Tab P1000 (7") in the end. It's not
here yet so will test it in the next couple of days.
I hope it will be more than a glorified remote. I have ordered an HDMI
dock as well so that I can stream to the TV (perhaps) and it'll get
good use for sofa-browsing I expect.
I've got Squeeze Commander running on an Archos 101 without issues so
should run just fine on the 7". Should be some deals around now the G9
is imminent. HMV have been selling the 101 for £129.

The Archos 80 G9 is starting to become available in the UK for around
£200. Looks like an interesting device runs Android 3.2.

I can't get the Nook in the UK (unless I import it). The P1000 Samsung
7" is attractive, but the spec is getting a little old. Will
SqueezeCommander work on Android 3.2 Honeycomb? If it will, then the

I have a rooted nook color running cyanogenmod 7.1 that fits the bill
nicely. Ithanks to bluegaspode, it can also be a squeeze device itself,
however the speaker in the nook is amemic at best.
A 7" android tablet at $200 with decent, loud stereo speakers and a
kickstand would be a geeat frontend
1.) It depends a bit on the actual 7" device, but yes, SqueezeCommander
should run fine on it.
I'm using a Galaxy Tab 7" here and I can really recommend it.
2.) You can disable the Screen timeout within SqueezeCommander
(Settings/Keep Screen On).

I have now downloaded an installed Squeeze Commander for my HTC Desire
and so I finally have album art being displayed in the Spotify App.
This was the last major obstacle to me trying to replace the Squeezebox
Controller, which is nice but just too fiddly to use.
So the next stage is to buy an
