That's a good point. I do have a colleague with some phones around the
same impedance as the 280s so I'll see if I can borrow his to try.
I've never got on that well with earbud style phones but maybe it time
for a re-evaluation.

One thing you may want to consider is that a big set of cans like the
HD280 have a higher impedance than most earbuds. Therefore they will
not get as loud, unless you run a headphone amp.
The HD280's have an impedance of 64 @ 1kHz, the UE5's have an impedance
of 13 @ 1kHz. An impedance of 64 BTW

I endorse the earbud idea. I have 2 Shures, one for busine
Thanks for your suggestions. Having checked out some further reviews,
the Sennheiser HD 280s do seem quite a good value for money.

Depends on your price range, and exactly what you want.
Here's my top picks in the under $100 category:
If you want something sealed/isolating, get the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro.
They're well built, sound great. For some people (like me) they fit a
bit too tightly at first, but after a bit of use
Now that the headphone jack on the Controller is no longer silent (and
should hopefully be fully functional by Xmas) I'm thinkig of putting
some good quality cans on my Xmas list
Can anybody recommend a set that will (a)give excellent sound quality,
and (b) not likely to drain the Controller bat
