As a player, I'd stick with PiCorePlayer over Max2Play. As a LMS
server, well, I'd get that off the Pi anyway. So my vote is for PcP.

I agree. I have run LMS on a LMS only pCp with NFS mount to my QNAP but
found that my SB3s would often show unable to connect to server. I put
it down to the 100mb shared bus of the LAN on the Pi being a bit
temperamental so switched back to a hacked VB2.4 installed on an SSD in
a 16gb Ram HP
For SB replacement I would use pCP only. A machine will not perform
anything and everything and stay in perfect sync at the same time. Plus
if you install packages that use Alsa they might impact how the player
works. Player role is rather specialised.
To run LMS, the story is entirely
IMHO the biggest difference between pCP and m2p is that pCP does one
thing (or two :-)) only, but does them well. Highly optimized, but
difficult to customize. Whereas m2p is a generic Linux system with some
customized packaging and UX to address a given use case, without
limiting itself to
