Hal, There is a VERY old bug relating to missing iTunes playlists that some people encounter - take a look at http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1278
It's probably worth enabling the d_itunes debugging option and running a rescan to see what comes up in the log. The playlist scan luckily comes at the end of the iTunes scan.
