I too am not a fan of overly automated tools and have often stated that
OOo should learn from MSO's mistakes, not emulate them.
To back up Lyle's opinion, I worked a help desk for some years and every
time a new package came out that we supported, we were flooded for months
with questions
I support that too, automation of the bars suck.. really what part of I am a
user, not a brain damaged patient does this people don't get.
I found this overly annoying and not something I would expect from a FLOSS
mentality. I want my apps stupid and simple.

I agree with Chad here. There is a place for automation. And to some
degree it's a matter of preference. I've seen people who hate
autocomplete. Chad likes it, and so do I. Now, on another program I use
(Anjuta - an IDE)
I guess the keyword here is the option to turn it off. I use autocomplete
too, but the point here is that it gives me the option to use it or not.
However the pop-ups AFAIK I can't turn them offat ll nor can I have any
control to pop up on a way that is not intrussive.

I am working with your Open Office 2.0 Beta. I tried 1.9.122 and an older
version.
I have a Freehand design, that I exported as an eps file. I can insert this in
a document with Microsoft Word, but with Open Office I cannot do the same.
So bad! :(
