Well, folks -- OpenOffice has been key to my migration away from M$oft for the past year or so. Essentially, I was able to remove MSOffice completely from my computers. However -- don't we always say that -- Linux experiments concluded that lots of fine effort still isn't ready for prime time in the broader marketplace of business -- which is what I do and need.

Enter the Mac Mini.

After 22 years of computing, I picked up a Mac Mini to see how that would work -- 1st, for my personal computing -- 2nd, for business. OS X Rules! It's proven to be everything I'd hoped for from Linux and 100% of polish and usability is already there.

But, OpenOffice isn't. The interim workaround -- OpenOffice sxw and doc files don't convert well or often to Appleworks. MS Office stuff does. I will not buy MS Office for OS X. My eventual plan for my home/office [as an example] will be to run a pair of Minis, 1 dedicated to the firm I work for, the other dedicated to my personal computing. KDM switch will sort out the differences.

But, rather than work deeper into Apple software, iWorks, etc., I'd rather move to OpenOffice and bring over my existing data directly. That's going to require progress with your OS X project. If it looks like y'all might get smooth and facile within the year -- I'll hang in. Otherwise, I guess it will take a full Mac conversion.

Not that my requirements are unique or self-centered. Just an example of what I -- and, soon, I hope, others will be going through.

Thought I'd pass it along.
