Hello,
My name is Dan Zahlis and I am a founder of the Active Agenda project
<http://www.activeagenda.net/>. I wasn't quite sure where to send my
note, so I would appreciate any help in directing my comment/inquiry to
the appropriate person.
We are an open source project with a "simple" mission: "Reduce workplace
risk, through global collaborative development and free distribution of
open technologies and ideas." Our project is enjoying some early success
around the globe. Our domain (risk control/regulatory compliance) is
heavily dependent upon documentation (forms, reports, etc.). One of our
goals was to use technologies that were readily available at no cost and
could put users in control of their risk control processes (eliminate
hurdles). OOo was/is a perfect match, but we still have a limitation.
We use OOo to create template files that are converted to pdf. We then
map the report definition fields (XML) using Adobe Writer to generate
our final reports. You can see our basic process here:
http://www.activeagenda.net/documentation/index.php?title=Reports_Feature
Getting to the point: We would like to skip the pdf mapping stage using
Adobe Writer!
We know that OOo is capable of mapping the fields directly, using the
form capabilities, but the process is very difficult with complex
reports. Are there plans underway to refine the form creation
capabilities to be more flexible and precise, like the Adobe form
creation features?
I recognize that my inquiry is lacking in specificity, but I would be
happy to spend whatever time required to help OOo understand our
process, dilemma, and the potential opportunities available via our
project through form feature refinements. Every company in the world
must manage risk and every company uses forms, reports, etc. to do this.
We think refinement of the form creation capabilities will further
empower our users to take control of their ability to reduce risk AND
increase their (corporate IT) willingness to adopt OOo!
Any information/help will be greatly appreciated.
Regards from sunny central California...Dan
