benchmark you probably want /dev/urandom instad
of /dev/random, because /dev/random will block when it runs out
of high-quality random numbers.

So it looks like you can use a VGA card as a source of arbitrary VHF
waveforms (at least arbitrary periodic VHF waveforms) without an
upconverter. Bellard seems to think that you could use it to do
nonperiodic waveforms too.

I saw a demo of this last year. It was incredible. It's currently
mostly aimed at the embedded systems market, where developers are
getting excited about the idea of not having to pay per-unit royalties
for customizable hardware designs.
