We recently upgraded some package min versions, and I think we overshot.
I agree that you shouldn't have to source-build pkg-config on a 14.04
system.

cd ~./pybombs/recipes/gr-recipes && git pull
https://github.com/marcusmueller/gr-recipes pkgconfig_cofigure
before re-trying the "pybombs prefix..." command?

Pip 8.2.1
UBUNTU 14.04
steps:
1. sudo -H pip install pybombs
2. sudo -H pip install --upgrade git+
https://github.com/gnuradio/pybombs.git
