What about Snortsam and ipfw? Is that a possibility. We were thinking
about starting a package with snort/snortsam.

It's a dedicated linux install.

Oh, I know that - separate box and all (or VM). It updates 3rd party
FW's though - PIX, Checkpoint, etc. I've never really ventured deep into
this realm, so I was reading a bit about how a FW would take external
updates to rules...
