Hi django-users - Long time fan and ardent proponent of django; I finally joined this list and this is my first time posting. Hi!
For the last few years I've been working on a django-based project called Democracy Dashboard; essentially it's the embryonic beginning of a replacement for all the difficult, time consuming, antisocial and/or expensive channels campaigns currently have for reaching voters. (from door knocking to TV ads) You can try out a pre-release of DemDash 2 here: http://demdash.us/ Of course we'd love feedback (and users), but the reason I'm writing is about a new contract I'm hoping to pick up. The client is building a new site (also a political app), starting with a really solid, really easy authentication system. The client is interested in email token auth since we're going to have the user's email anyway, but we also want to be ready to go with social authentication as necessary. Having recently retrofit DemDash to do social authentication after the fact and having a bit of a rough go of it, I'm excited about the opportunity to take another bite at getting it just right. I'm looking for general guidelines on this and apologies if I missed a FAQ item, but I haven't found much that seems authoritative. (even the stackoverflow answers are partial/missing) This post seems like about the best starting point out there: http://hackerluddite.wordpress.com/2011/05/17/review-of-4-django-social-auth-apps/ ... but I'm wondering if anything has changed since then. And I'm just looking for general thoughts, really. Has anyone had any notably good (or bad) experiences with authentication systems lately they'd like to share? If you were doing it from scratch, knowing what you know now, what would you do? Which module would you use and what else would you think about? Thanks so much! da Dan Ancona Founder Democracy Dashboard demdash.us/DanAncona m 415.373.8972 -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Django users" group.
