I believe the issue is that updating items is currently a "don't call
us, we'll call you" affair where the updates are initiated by Do core
and not the plugins. Adding something to core for this plugin would be
a special case. Having some method by which plugins can request an
update (such as this

Thanks for getting back to me - the method you suggested should work for
now at least. However, I don't believe adding a reindex option would be
classes as a "special case" and I'm sure other people would like similar
functionality...

We're not going to special case the plugin, but there is a way you can
access the file anyway, search for "desktop" then use the right arrow to
enter the folder, your file will be there.
