I have this same effect on my Xenial (Unity) desktop. It is especially
evident in chrome with URLs that contain numerics.

While this appears to only show in LO apps, I also notice that the
choice of Ubuntu Light for my desktop gets replaced with Ubuntu Thin.

I would blame the fontconfig trick they did in the packaging as a
possible cause.
