Further investigation reveals that the remaining DVD R/W drive cannot be written to. K3b insists that any media that I use is not valid and insists I insert a writeable media.

I have looked in the BIOS and the device is identified as Secondary Drive 0: CD-ROM Reader, so I wonder if this is a a BIOS 'feature' that is making the software think the actual device is not capable of writing. I cannot change the BIOS identification of the device.

It did work for awhile after I built the machine. It is a rather old Dell Workstation 650. I was copying two DVD's and it did the first, and I thought it did the second (but it was blank) and then it refused to do any more.

It does play movie DVD's - just tested.

Any thoughts?

Hi, Does anybody in the Colehill/Wimborne area have a spare DVD R/W with an IDE interface that I could borrow for a day or two. Mine just packed up.

Thanks,
