While not technically the same I have a 2007 IBM laptop which I fitted an IDE to Sata converter (plugin type) and then fitted a Sata SSD drive. All fitted into the drive bay. Works perfectly, faster than the old IDE but not as quick as Sata SSD and I can boot from it. Regards Tim H On

Hi Peter, You'll likely not be able to boot from NVME on a system that old, and you probably don't have NVME slots either, but that can be fixed with a PCIE to NVME adaptor card, if you have a free PCIE slot. A while ago back when I had an older computer, I booted it from NVME using Clover
