Having made an all-shared library version of the security webcam programme, I tried a test install. Using sudo ldconfig -n <the directory path> I made the library link in situ. Unfortunately a face detection system all in-process is more than my netbook can cope with. I also produced a conf file to automate future referencing. This lives with a small collection of similar files under /etc/ld.so.conf.d/ and simply contains the directory address of the library.
