I finally succeeded in compiling dovecot-1.1.rc12 on AIX with the following
patch:

I'd like to propose applying the above patch for 1.1 release. ;)
I tested successfully with gcc and IBM C Compiler.

It failed to compile with `IBM(R) XL C/C++ Enterprise Edition V8.0 for AIX(R)'
on `AIX machine 3 5'. My configuration was `./configure CC=xlc
