doveadm reload kicked proxy/director users

We just noticed, that a doveadm reload kicked all existing imap-sessions on our Dovecot Director. We're surprised about that, because shutdown_clients is set to NO. Is there any way to reload a config change without kicking all IMAP sessions? Peer -- Heinlein Support GmbH Schwedter Str.
