a) it was maildir (set via a SQL config that overrides the setting in
10-mail.conf)
b) the client did not display the new messages. All fine.

Hello, I had to restore a mailserver from a backup to replace a system
with problems that is still live. I did a 1:1 restore as far as possible
from a backup, then rsynced the /var/vmail/ directory, where we have all
the mailboxes, in sdbox format.
So both directories should be the same. After
Sharing IMAP accounts poses no technical problems, we do that all the time.
It might pose GDPR / confidentiality problems however, depending on the
type of mails in the account and on the legal situation.

Just a basic comment: Outlook is well known for its bad IMAP support.
It is really not a recommendable IMAP client. My experience is similar
to yours: it may work, then it may not work, while other clients can use
the same account without problems.

I did run a protocol analyzer trace on the TCP transaction, when the POP3
clients were connecting and discovered a lot of Re-Transmissions and Duplicate
ACK packets.
Then the first thing I would do is check the network connection. Maybe
you have a wrecked network card, switch port ot et
series is a huge improvement, but as always with new software,
with the first versions a bunch of problems is being uncovered.
As for the migration, have you had a look at imapsync? With that tool I
migrated lots of mailboxes user-wise from one imap server to another.

No, it parses the config without errrors as far as I can see (below).
It seems only to crash when called in the contect of the LDA - perhaps a

My guess is that OE is just buggy and there's nothing that can be done
to fix it.
That's also my view. Or, to use a more neutral term: Outlook and Outlook
Express do support IMAP, but their support of the IMAP format is limited.
For an IMAP mail server, they are probably not the best
Generally a straightforward way to cure suche MS client errors is to
remove the account in Outlook or OE and re-create it. One can also
delete the cache files for the account but the first way is more
explainable to a user.

certain users only. Basic idea is to use two userdbs, one for SSL
connections and one internal with most users in it. Is there a way to
do this without running two dovecot configurations?
