I enabled the trash plugin yesterday, adding trash to mail_plugins, and configuring the plugin setting trash = /etc/dovecot/dovecot-trash.conf.ext. But I still see users with lots of files in INBOX.Trash getting bounced because of quota exceeded: postfix/lmtp[26273]:: C89F490061:

The trash plugin docs say: Normally if a message can't be saved/copied because it would bring user over quota, the save/copy fails with Quota exceeded error. The trash plugin can be used to avoid such situations by making Dovecot automatically expunge oldest messages from configured mailboxes
