on my Centos 7 Dovecit 2.2.32, as well as prior versions, I've always used
/var/vmail/vmail1/dom.tld

I would guess something under /var/lib. If you plan to host multiple
virtual servers, /srv might be a better place to lo
stemd/system/dovecot.service.d/writable-home.conf
[Service]
ProtectHome=false
