I don't know what audio chip Drake used in the R-7. I know the TR-7 uses the LM380 while the TR-5 uses the TDA2002 aka LM383. The TDA2002/LM383 has substantially better specs and performance. This is the same chip many Drake users are familiar with as it was a very popular mod for the R-4C. Subseq

Ed, Over the years, I have had (2) R7's and one R7A. You should get the service manual for the radio - it's quite a bit different and more complex than the receiver in the TR7. None of mine had low sensitivity, so if yours seems weak in that department, something is probably amiss. All of my

Hello, I am starting to use an R7A recently obtained. I wonder if anyone can comment on how difficult it may be to align the R7A; mine seems a bit low on sensitivity; at least the S-meter is reading low. Also, I notice the calibrator on mine is not working. I don't think it's operator erro
