Casey - The receiver came from Drake with the 150 ohm, 2W resistor "installed" in the AM filter slot, which is under the chassis. This means the receiver bandwidth is set at 8 kHz by the "roofing" filter in the first IF of the receiver. Drake also offered filters in 4 and 6 kHz bandwidths to

Hi everyone... I have the Drake 2B and would like to improve the reception on AM.  Is there some way I can bypass the 3.6kc filter?  Otherwise, the rig is a great receiver just as sensitive as my FT 1000mp in almost every situation.  from Ron VE4SR

The Drake 2B has a wide selectivity figure of 3.6 KCthe R4-A-B series has a wider selectivity, 4.8 KC and works very well for me on AM, the R4C has separate filters and you can buy them for even wider I believe...however, I like the R4-A-B series somewhat better, I believe the fidelity is b

Isn't that just a matter of putting a fixed value resistor across the connections of one of the filters (for the C I mean)? Haven't read the manual in a while, but that sticks in my memory.  73, Casey, KS7J -Original Message-From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]On

Alan - The 2B is a little narrow. Best to use "Exalted Carrier" AM reception. Essentially this means turning on the BFO and tuning in the AM signal like an SSB signal. With the 3.6 kHz b/w selectivity you have one sideband. This actually helps with things like selective fading, etc. But

I think the best Drake receiver for AM is the R4B.  It's got the sensitivity and the selectivity already built in, ideal for AM.  The R4C is good, too, though you need to add the optional 6 or 8 kc filter for best results.  Just mu .02 worth   73, Ed NI6S

A friend of mine is regressing (or progressing) back into AM and wants a small footprint high quality AM receiver. He tried the Drake 2B and claims it is a bit too narrow bandwidth wise for good AM fidelity. Are there any of say the R-series that may have a bit better audio on AM?  I had passed alo

TVI filters For Sale: Drake TV-1000-LP Low pass filter for the transmitter This is the filter that may also be used on the low end of six meters, as well as HF. It is good for 1000 W below 30 MHz, and about 200 W up to 52 MHz. It is in very nice shape, with the copper is still nice and shiny. $
