I have never had any trouble with my TR-5 and like it a lot. What are the common problems experienced with the rig? Should I be stocking up on any particular parts?

Mikethanks to you and other Drakers for posting
Sounds like it's time to get the Discovery Channel to
sponser a diving expedition to recover those radios! (like they did with Gus
Grissom's Liberty Bell) The documentary would be fantastic; at least to those of
us on this list :-)

Jim,
Early TR-4's had this pot/switch combination
for using the plate meter for relative output. Later TR-4C's used a fixed
resistor and a switch on the LOAD control.

The labeling around the switch made my old mind

mind you, just relative. I remember it was an "art" to be able to push the

Not many TR-5s were made which is why the price is higher. It was nota dependable a rig as the TR-7 and runs less power. Nevertheless, it i s still a soughtafter piece. I am fortunate enough to have the TR-5, PS-75 and L-75, all in above average condition and working well.

What is the story with the tr-4 meter control
between the Plate and Load controls. I had a tr-4 and I don't remember this
being there. I have seen pictures of some that do and some that
don't.

Jim,
It appears that there were only about 500 of them
produced, so I guess not many of them to find, hi. I have one too that I
need to get repaired, since they are so valuable, hi.

Jim, the TR5 is a fine radio and works well
and was to be the solid state replacement for the TR4 series. I think
the reason for the high value is its a rare item to find. Drake only
manufactured 517 units, as compared to around 3000 or more
TR7's. Of those 517 TR5's built we believe

you attribute this?
