Zeners can and do become very noisey and erratic in voltage sometimes,
especially older ones. It's the nature of avalanche breakdown (they don't
actually "zener" as the name implies) whenever a PN junction is exposed at
the surface of the semiconductor vs buried well within the crystal. Older

Hi all,
I disconnected the cables between my T4XC and R4C to move some things
around. Now I'm gonna try to hook them back up. Have a couple questions:
I am assuming that jumpers should go between similarly-marked connections of
the TX and RX. I have a couple cables that claim to be somethi

You asked about SPR-4 labels. Here's a suggestion from back in February
that I found very helpful. If the Drakelist is searchable, I don't know how
to do it...this is just from my "old mail." Good luck...I want to make
some labels for my own SPR-4, too. Jim, K5JD, seems to have
Hi Guys,
Some positive re-assuring feedback from both Garey, & Chris---thanks, guys!
I will, indeed, make replacing that zener diode my next step, just as soon as I
might get my hot little hands on one. Meanwhile, I've had the Twins on for
several hours now, so they're good & hot---and I made t

Good work! Nicely documented, thanks.
Yes, Zener diodes DO 'go wobbly' sometimes, as do FETs, but both are far
less common than dirty rider bars, hardened grease in ball bearings,
gummy rear slug guide and/or rod. Since the T-4X didn't use FETs in the
PTO, that pretty well eliminates
Hi Guys,
Well, I thought I'd give everyone a bit of a progress report here as to the
intermittent frequency "wobble" of the CW signal---both when spotting, and on
the air---that I've been experiencing lately with my T-4X...
First-off, my thanks to Curt (KU8L), David A., and Garey (K4OAH) for yo
